Harrison's Bird Diet is our recommended pellet to be fed as part of a rounded approach to companion parrot nutrition.
A pelleted diet should make up 50 - 80% of your bird's diet. Much like dog and cat food is formulated to provide nutrition for dogs and cats, Harrison's Bird diet is formulated to meet 100% of the nutritional needs for most parrot species. Birds, however, benefit both nutritionally and psychologically from variety! We also recommend feeding your bird 20 - 30% healthy table foods - focusing on dark green and orange vegetables as the primary fresh food. Less than 10% of your bird's diet should be seeds or nuts.
Cockatiels, budgerigars and lories/lorikeets have slightly different nutritional needs. We recommend feeding cockatiels and budgies a diet consisting of 50% pellets, 30% quality seed mix and 20% veggies/healthy table foods. Lories and lorikeets require a liquid nectar and additional fruit supplementation.
During his 36 years as an active avian practitioner and international speaker Dr. Greg J. Harrison sought to reduce the use of drugs in his patients by enhancing the bird’s own immune system. Along the way, he developed a practical, well bird philosophy, which translated into the creative use of unique quality remedies that really worked to boost the health of his patients.
We are proud to make some of these remedies available to everyone with a product line called AVIx.
There are several products available through Summertree Animal and Bird Clinic, be sure to ask about them at your next avian exam!
